The Consumer Privacy Bill Of Rights - 1600 Words

Abstract Identity theft is at an all time high in America. In fact, in 2012 alone victims throughout America suffered approximately $24.7 billion in both direct and in-direct losses (DiGangi, 2013). That amount of loss nearly doubled what was accumulated in other types of theft such as burglary, property theft, and auto theft. These cases of identity theft and data breaches have became so common today that most do not even pay close attention when a new case is mentioned. However, the effort to eliminate the threat before it occurs is ever important when dealing with a phantom like enemy. Thus, the demand for an establishment and improvement of security is also at an all-time high with consumers. These same citizens bear the right and†¦show more content†¦Existing Legislation In recent times, the American legislation has failed to focus on many of the important characteristics involved with consumer privacy protection. This is due in part to a great deal of pressure that has been placed on the government by civil rights groups, activists, and major industries. In fact, the United States and Turkey are two countries that have failed significantly with the establishment of consumer data protection (CDT, n.d.). Prior to the Consumer’s Privacy Bill, consumer data protection in the United States was governed by unproductive mixes of laws that were applicable to prudent economic sectors that provide protection for a small division of consumer personal data in lieu of establishing a precedence of protections through one single law (CDT, n.d.). These practices alone are inadequate for technological standards of the most recent times, where Americans rely on the internet to conduct very personal business. Section five of the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC), which provides opposition to companies participating in unfair and illegal trading practice even provides a limited protection without the Consumer Privacy Bill providing stable security to consumers. However, with the establishment of the Consumer Privacy Bill of Right that single standard is established that extends protection to all data while providing grounds for regulations and laws reducing or even eliminating potential cyber attacks with enhanced

Essay about Marvel to His Mistress Carpe Diem! - 721 Words

Marvell to His Mistress: Carpe Diem! In Andrew Marvells poem To His Coy Mistress, hes arguing for affection. The object of the speakers desire wants to wait and take the relationship slow, while the speaker pushes for instant gratification. This persuasive poem makes the point that time waits for no one and its foolish for two lovers to postpone a physical relationship. Marvells piece is structured as a poem but flows as a classical argument. He uses the three stanzas to address the issues of time, love, and sex. In doing so, he creates his own standpoint and satirizes his audience in the process. Using appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos; logical reasoning; and even a hint of the Rogerian technique - Marvell proves that†¦show more content†¦In it, the readers sees the reality of a mortal life. The contrast between the serene, ideal world in stanza one and the harshness of death in stanza two creates an appeal to pathos again. The speaker uses the mistresss emotions of fear - scaring her by mentioning her fading beauty and lost youth. These ideas refute the first stanza. They show how quick time flies, and that once its gone, its gone forever. The mistress is meant to be full of hopelessness upon hearing the description of life after death, or lack thereof. The purity of her virginity is pointless in the afterlife. Following this point, Marvell presents a solution for lifes quick end. Instead of waiting for love, the mistress should seize the day and act now. Since she will not be desired after shes dead, and her virginity will be meaningless, the speaker argues for her to have sex with him in the present, while she is still alive and can enjoy it. Marvell presents this as a conquest, a game for lovers to playas they rush against time. As perverted as the speaker may seem, his point is proven in the structure of his argument. If the mistress agrees that the situation put forth in stanza one is unattainable because of the idea presented in stanza two, the only cure is doing as stanza three suggests: carpe diem. The strength of this argument is there in the flow and placement of the ideas. Its odd that a love poem would be set up so logically, but thats what makes it so persuasiveShow MoreRelatedCompare and Contrast to His Coy Mistress and Passionate Shepherd to His Love1321 Words   |  6 Pages‘To His Coy Mistress’ Is a love poem by Andrew Marvel. John Keats (1134 words) Essay Example For Students

John Keats (1134 words) Essay John KeatsWhile reading a poem the skills applied in its creation are often easilyoverlooked. However, it is the unsurpassed mastership of these skills what makesthis particular poet the most deserving recipient of this years prestigiousPOTY award. John Keats possesses unparallel poetic craftsmanship. Three of hispoems: On First Looking into Chapmans Homer, When I havefears, and Ode to Autumn reveal his genius ness at the artof poetry. The first poem: On First Looking displays Keatssmastership at one of the most difficult forms of poetry: the sonnet. What makesa sonnet such a difficult form of poetry is the fact that in each line there arefive accented and five unaccented syllables. This is difficult task toaccomplish by someone of limited writing experience. However, Keats showed hispoetic genius ness by mastering this form early in his writing career. The poemis in the form of an Italian sonnet which has a dual pattern: an octave ( 1steight lines)with a rhyming syntax of: abab abba , and a sextet (last six lines)with a rhyming pattern of: cdcd, making a total of 14 lines. In an Italiansonnet the poet focuses on a problem or a situation in the octave; then, in thesextet, he focuses on the solution of the problem or the significance of thesituation. In the first few lines, Keats describes the experience of where hehad been in his literary journey before encountering Homer: Much have I travelld,/ And many .states and kingdoms seen; ( Keats, lines 1-2). This is giving the reader the understanding that he had read many agreat literary books. And, although he had been told about Homer: Oft ofone wide expanse had I been told/ That.Homer ruled as his demesne, (5-6); it did not have the same effect as when he read it himself: Yet didI never breathe its pure serene/ Till I heard Chapman speak . : ( 7-8). The impact this experience had on him is told in the last six lines. First hecompares himself with an astronomer discovering a new planet: Then felt Ilike some watcher of the skies/ When a new planet swims into his ken; (9-10) or a voyageur discovering new territory: Or like stout Cortez whenwith eagle eyes/ He stard at the Pacific? and all his men/ Lookd ..with awild surmise? (11-13). After having read the poem, the reader cannothelp but feel the same awestruck ness that overpowered Keats. The second poem toshow Keatss craftsmanship is: When I have fear For the secondtime, Keats chooses to display his skill as a poet by writing in the form of asonnet, this time being a Shakespearean one. The difference between this sonnetand the Italian one is in the pattern. The Shakespearean sonnet has threequatrains (4 lines each) with a rhyming pattern of : abab cdcd efef, and acouplet (2 lines) with the rhyming pattern of: gg. This is the most difficultform of poetry to write, yet Keats shows n o difficulty in its development makingone more addition to the structure: he puts his sonnet in the form of a periodicsentence. This means that the main idea of the sentence is at the end as it isin the poem. In the first quatrain he introduces the first part of the idea bysharing his innermost feelings on a subject very familiar to all: Death. Leavingthis world without his work being recognized was one of Keatss greatestemotional battles: When I have fears that I may cease to be/ Before mypen has gleand my teeming brain, (Keats, 1-2) . The second quatrainexpresses his anxiety of not being able to fulfill his potential: When Ibehold, ../Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,/And think that I may neverlive to trace/ Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance; ( 5-8). Thethird quatrain is about his fear of not seeing his beloved evermore: Andwhen I feel,./That I shall never look upon thee more, ( 10-11) Finally, after telling the world of all his fears, he comes to the conclusion t hat allhis ambitions for love and fame are meaningless, and in doing so, he submits tothe idea that when its his time to go, nothing will stand in the way: Ofthe wide world I stand alone , and think/ Till love and fame to nothingness dosink. (13-14). The third glimpse at Keatss craftsmanship comes throughhis mastership at yet another poetic form: the ode. In his poem Ode toAutumn , Keats praises the season overlooked by most people: Autumn. Inthe first stanza, the reader gets a vivid picture of the landscape by Keatsfocusing mainly on visual imagery: Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load andbless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; To bend with applesthe mossd cottage-trees, And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; To swellthe gourd, and plump the hazel shells With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,And still more, later flowers for the bees, Until they think warm days willnever cease, For summer has oer-brimmd their clammy cells. (Keats, 1-11) Thesecond stanza starts with the personification of Autumn, embodying her in thedaily labors of harvest: Who Hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?/Theesitting careless on a granary floor, ( 11,13). Then , Keats follows withwords that place the reader in a peaceful and harmonious environment: Thyhair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;/Or on a half-reapd furrow soundasleep,/Drowsd with the fume of poppies, .. (15-17). In the last fourlines, the realization of Autumn in a more physical and active form is seen: And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep/Steady thy laden head acrossa brook; / Or by a cyder-press, with a patient look, / Thou watchest the lastoozing hours by hours. ( 19-22). In the last verse, Keats presents thereader with the symphony of Autum and sheds light on the fact that everythinghas a purpose in life: Where are the songs of spring? Ay, where arethey?/ think not of them, though hast thy music too, (23-2 4). .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .postImageUrl , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:hover , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:visited , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:active { border:0!important; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:active , .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1587b0ccab7bf2cb6d6808f1c7c0073c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Jane Eyre Charcater Study EssayThroughout his short writing career, Keats is able to prove his unsurpassablepoetic craftsmanship in the three poems previously discussed. Seasoning A Culinary Delight Essay Example

Seasoning: A Culinary Delight Essay Seasoning is the act of adding herbs, spices, or condiments to your food for the primary purpose of enhancing its flavor. In any kind of cuisine, whether it’s Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, or Mexican, adding seasoning is vital in improving the taste of the food being cooked. The principle of most seasonings is that they transfer their flavor to the food and complimenting its natural taste. Around the world, there are a lot of types of seasonings used when preparing a dish. Seasonings are usually done after cooking. However, salt and pepper, are done before cooking and during the preparation of food to add the desired initial taste or flavor. Salt is most widely used seasoning to enhance flavor, while pepper enables more heat to come in and cook the food. Another common seasoning used in preparing all dishes is the onion and garlic. Onions are usually chopped and used in salads and fried meat among others and are rarely eaten on their own. Likewise, the garlic is also often employed in most dishes due to the pungent or strong flavor that it adds to the food. It can either be crushed or chopped into smaller pieces depending on the food being cooked. Seasonings also vary according to the type of the main ingredient being used. For example, certain herbs are best used only for meat and some condiments are used only for fish. For meat, possibly the most popular seasoning employed is barbecue sauce. After the barbecue meat has been cooked, usually by grilling, the barbecue sauce, which is mildly spicy, is usually added to compliment the rough texture and bland taste of the meat. In some cases alcohol is also employed in preparing meat. On the other hand, when eating seafood, the most common seasoning added is soy sauce. This is best shown in Japanese cuisine, where almost every dish, which is usually raw, uses soy sauce as an almost necessary condiment. Moreover, when the dish is fried, usually seasonings that give a sweet taste are used to counteract the often salty flavor of fried food. Fish is also marinated with either soy sauce or vinegar to add deeper flavor. The seasonings employed also vary according to the country the dish originated from. In China, the most common foods served are noodles and dumplings. Seasonings for these dishes can range from ginger to local herbs and spices. Thailand, on the other hand, is well known for their innate love for using spices which is why most of its dishes are spicy. In Mexico, spicy food is also popular. However, the basic ingredients are raw vegetables and a spicy sauce is added. The food is commonly made up of raw lettuces, cabbage and tomatoes plus the addition of a spicy sauce as a seasoning In Vietnam, noodles are the staple food. However, the seasonings employed are usually beans, cucumber, and hot pepper to make it spicy. Vietnamese cuisine and seasoning has gained a huge amount of popularity due to the exquisite combination of the basic ingredients and the seasonings. On the other hand, Italy is well known for using a variety of spices, herbs, and other seasonings in preparing their trademark food- pasta. Cheese, tomatoes, tomato paste are the most commonly used seasonings are also in preparing Italian pizza. Moreover, adding seasonings is not only limited to cooking. In baking, sweeteners, which are also considered seasonings, are also used as they add essential flavors to the food being baked. The most commonly used among these sweeteners in baking are vanilla powder, vanilla paste, as well as fruits. Even when making coffee, seasonings such as whip cream, are employed. Dairy products are not different, as ice creams are often topped with different flavored syrups. Furthermore, seasonings not only enhance flavor but also give characteristic aromas to food depending on the type used. Aromatic seasonings are onion, garlic, leaves of herbs, and butter, often give food a distinct smell. The color of a certain food can also be attributed to the type of seasoning being used. Different kinds of peppers and herbs are often responsible for altering the color of the food. Marinating food also alters its color if seasonings, such as soy sauce, are used. Generally, adding seasonings to your food as almost become a part of everyday life. Whether it’s adding pepper to pasta, pasting wasabe to Japanese maki, putting a few drops of hot sauce to pizza, dipping French fires in ketchup, or smothering grilled meat with barbecue sauce, it is clear that seasonings have become a part of any kind of dish. Seasonings add color, aroma, and most importantly flavor to the food. There a lot of connotations to the use of seasonings but possibly the most notable among them is the Chinese belief that all ingredients of a dish, including the seasonings, should be balanced and proportional in order to maintain similar balance inside the body. Japanese, on the other hand, use wasabe when eating raw seafood as it removes the toxic and fishy materials on the surface of the food. Moreover, herbs and other seasonings, like onions and garlic, are often employed in cooking because they have known health benefits. According to Jennifer Warner’s article posted on Medicine.net, people who consume onions and garlic on a regular and normal basis have a decreased risk to have cancer of the breast, colon, prostate, and ovary, among others.

The relationship between changing of labor force(total labor number ) Essay

The relationship between changing of labor force(total labor number ) and Unemployment rate - Essay Example Majority of employees are either young or old. The labor participation rate for women is lower than originally estimated. Experts argue that the number of women in the labor force will increase as soon as the economy recovers. The labor participation rate often affects the unemployment rate in the economy. It is important to note that with lower labor participation rate, with the same level of unemployment, there will be lower unemployment rate(McBride 1). If the employment growth could continue, for example, 250,000 jobs a month in 2012, and the participation rate (63.7% in 2012), statisticians predicted a 7.3% fall in December 2012 (McBride 1). For this reason, the higher the labor participation rate, then there will be a reduction in the unemployment rate. This study will be useful in explaining why changes in the labor force will mask gains in the jobs situation (McBride 1). Currently, the unemployment rate has reduced significantly, since the Great Recession. However, the labor force has not changed. A research by McBride, he defined the labor participation rate as the percentage of Americans at the working-age, who are either working or looking for jobs. Statistics indicate that the labor participation rate is at a 35-year low. Many people lay the blame for this rate to the economy, which has not been constant. Experts argue that the fall in the unemployment rate is because of the decline in the labor force participation (McBride 1). Reports indicate that the US labor force has changed positively because of demographics. Additionally, the same reports indicate that the US labor force keeps shrinking. During the previous years, the unofficial unemployment rate kept dropping even though job creation has been relatively soft (McBride 1). For instance, during the past four months, the U.S government created 150,000 jobs a month (McBride 1). However, the unemployment rate has been dropping precipitously. What is the reason for this? From
